Top 50 WBF

I have been very busy lately teaching bridge and working on the course management system created with Moodle ; I had hardly time to write on this blog. But this week is holiday's time . WBF open Top 50 and Women's Top 50 for 2007 has just been published . Fulvio Fantoni and Sabine Auken are both number one . French players are not doing so well . Franck Multon, first french player is 39th. Paul Chemla 46 th, Hervé Mouiel (60th) Alain Lévy (61st) Michel Bessis ( 74th), Thomas Bessis ( 80th) et Pierre Zimmerman ( 86th). Catherine d'Ovidio est 5th. There are 24 players all together from USA and Italy in the Top 50; no wonder, Bridge sponsoring works well in those countries .There isn' a single day when I do not take time to read some bridge blogs. A nice way of sharing things and thoughts with bridge lovers. I like best Stacy Jacobs, Peggy Kaplan andLinda Lee. 's . Sometimes I read some theory by Ulf Nilsson or some matches stories by the young canadian couple Korbel' or by Jennifer Jones 's. I came across nice posts like the new one on Barry Crane for my page, or bridge picts for my album or interesting articles of all sorts like bridge for kids or junior. I have added two new kaliedoscopes, one on Claudio Nunes and one on Hamman. I am working on a bridge project to start specific clairebridge's matches and practices on BBO but not just for the time being....

L'enseignement m'a quelque peu éloigné de ce Blog; la maintenance du site de cours en ligne pour les étudiants grâce au logiciel Moodle est consommatrice de temps.
Aujourd'hui, ce sont les vacances. Le To 50 des meilleurs joueurs au classement mondial 2007 est sorti et j'ai mis à jour les photos pour les hommes et pour les femmes . C'est Fulvio Fantoni qui est classé premier joueur mondial et Sabine Auken, premieuse joueuse.

Les nations les plus représentées sont celles ou le sponsoring fonctionne le mieux ( USA 18, Italie, 6).
Il ne se passe pas un jour sans que je fasse un tour sur les blogs de bridge. Un moment de partage avec ce que nous aimons. Celui de Stacy Jacobs, de Peggy Kaplan et de Linda Lee. Parfois un peu de théorie avec Ulf Nilsson ou bien quelques lectures de donnes avec le jeune couple canadien Korbel ou Jennifer Jones
Au hasard de ces lectures, je fait des trouvailles.Un article sur Barry Crane pour compléter ma page, des photos pour mon album ou des articles intéressants sur le bridge scolaire et junior.
J'ai ajouté deux nouveaux collages, l'un sur Claudio Nunes et l'autre sur Bob Hamman. Je réfléchis à un projet de Match spécifiquement réservé aux lecteurs de clairebridge sur BBO mais il faudra attendre un peu

San Francisco NABC

I always look forward to read about NABC tournaments. San Francisco NABC Fall 2007 is just over .The Daily Bulletins are full of interestings articles, hands and stories about bridge players. Thanks to the Bulletin, I got enough material to publish a page about Paul Soloway . A few days after the Tournament, Jonathan Steinberg let us share his photographs of this bridge scene and I like his albums. Les Bulletins quotidiens des Tournois NABC, tel que celui qui vient de se terminer à San Francisco sont des sources intéressantes d'articles , de donnes et de récits sur le monde du bridge. Grâce à ces Bulletins , j'ai pu réunir assez d'informations pour publier une page sur Paul Soloway , photographié ici en 1973. Quelques jours après , c'est avec une certaine impatience que j'attend la publication des photos de ces tournois par Jonathan Steinberg et les récits de donnes intéressantes.les Blogs come celui de Susie et Daniel Korbel en publient beaucoup ou encore celui ci.

With my subcription , the Bridge World send me a book about Edgar Kaplan"Bridge Master : The Best of Edgar Kaplan .I very much liked the chapter National Champioships and the way Kaplan analysed pairs performances during international tournaments. I read lots of things about him recently and this is why I created a page on Edgar Kaplan on the site.
Updating the site takes more and more time. I spend hours, fascinating ones, collecting informations. Today, I opened a new section on the conventions page on the 2 Club Opening, Strong or ambiguous opening and there are already some interesting articles in this section.
Avec un nouvel abonnement, le journal Bridge World m'a envoyé un livre sur Edgar Kaplan « Bridge Master : The Best of Edgar Kaplan»Le chapitre sur sa façon de commenter les tournois internationaux et en particulier la performance de chacun est particulièrement intéressant.J'ai fait quelques recherches sur lui d'où une page qui lui est consacrée sur le site.La mise à jour du site prend de plus en plus de temps.d'un lien à un autre, je ne vois pas le temps passer et parfois, je trouve des choses passionnantes, bien loin de mon lien initial. C'est ainsi que j'ai ouvert et alimenté une nouvelle rubrique sur la page conventions concernant l'ouverture de 2T fort ou ambivalent et j'ai même trouvé une photo de son fondateur.

Shangai, it's over ...Shangai ... c'est fini

Shanghai .... it’s all over but still alive for a while due to the intensity of some of the matches watched on BBO, the happy smiles on winners faces, the daily photos, the blogs and all those hours spent connected, sometimes struggling against sleep , always fascinated and always wanting more . How not to feel grateful for being able to use this fantastic free bridge media! This is why the commentaries related by Stacy Jacobs, while watching a match between USA1 ans South Africa, are completlly to be banned …. Bridge, just Bridge , no gossip or private jokes imitating the worst of some TV Shows. Irina Lévintina s‘ victory, as Bridge and Chess champion reminded me once more of the links between the two games. Writing about Tim Seres, in the Daily Shaghai bulletin, Cathy Chua says « "It was watching Tim Seres that I realized bridge is exactly like chess. The great player gets to do the right thing in the endgame because he has routinely done the right thing at the start, but often the two are not directly connected: It is a matter of principle to place your pieces on the best square .... Shanghai , it’s also the news about the publications of the new bridge Laws 2007 and the texts are on Ecats...

Shanghai .... c’est fini mais c’est encore vivant quelques temps, grâce à l’intensité des rencontres suivies sur BBO, au souvenir des sourires heureux des vainqueurs, aux photos , aux blogs , et aux heures passées à regarder les matchs, parfois un peu ensommeillée , émerveillée et jamais lassée . Comment ne pas être reconnaissant de disposer ainsi gratuitement d’un media aussi fantastique et de surplus gratuit ! C’est la raison pour laquelle les commentaires complètement à côté de la plaque tels que les relate Stacy Jacobs, lors d’une retransmission d’un match USA1 South Africa sont à bannir définitivement…..
La victoire d’Irini Lévintina , double championne Bridge et Echecs m’a permis de creuser un peu plus encore les similitudes entre ces deux jeux . Beat the Champions, le premier des Jeux fléchés à thème lançé par PlaybridgeUK.Un jeu de 24 donnes commentées extrait des olympiades de 1968 . Il s'agit de pratiquer le Bridge en Duplicate d'une nouvelle façon, chez soi avec ses amis tout en bénéficiant d'une comparaison des scores en ligne; un concept intéressant à suivre.

Petite modification de la page d'accueil de Clairebridge avec accès direct au Bridge en photos et à la rétrospective en image des vainqueurs de la Spingold depuis 1934.

Vacances ..... Time Out

Found out yesterday a nice hand analyser freeware by Joel Bradmetz . See Utilities page on Clairebridge, it has been brushed up and completed. I am leaving Paris for holidays... will be in Deauville in July for the International bridge festival.

I was fascinated by this careful play by Debbie Rosenberg (left on this photo with her partner, Joanna Stansby ...pictured by Peggy Kaplan) They bid a skinny slam, 6 diamond on a small heart lead(East had doubled a 4H call). " Rosenberg won the ace and ruffed a heart to hand. She played a spade to the king and ruffed a second heart. Now she ruffed a spade in dummy and played a diamond, ducked to her king. She played another diamond to the queen, East ducking again. Rosenberg played her final diamond off dummy. East won, but holding no more hearts, she was helpless. She could play a spade or a club and Rosenberg could take the rest of the tricks."... This was worth 10 IMPs. Extract from the Bulletin n°7

J'ai été fascinée par le jeu soigneux de Debbie Rosenberg (photographiée par Peggy Kaplan avec sa partenaire JoAnna Stansby) Elle joue 6K , contrat très tendu, sur entame d'un petit Coeur après qu'Est ait contré une enchère de contrôle de 4C. Entame pris de l'As, Coeur coupé et Pique pour le Roi. 2ème Coeur coupé et Pique coupé. Carreau pour le Roi, duqué et Carreau pour la Dame, de nouveau duqué. Un troisième Carreau pour l'As et EST en main n'ayant plus de coeur, doit rejouer Pique ou Trèfle pour12 levées pour un gain de 10 IMPs mérité....

The Cardsharps (a.k.a. The Card Sharpers) de Michelangelo MERISI da CARAVAGGIO (1573 - 1610) on Cardshark online , discovered thanks to Card- Table Talk, a very interesting site, quite out of the ordinary. This wonderful painting Cardsharps became the model piece for many other works on the cheating theme. See also a great collection online with American and European artists from E-Gaming's Art of Gaming Gallery .
